The Chronosphere is a project fiscally sponsored by Fractured Atlas, a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts service organisation. The Chronosphere is not a standalone legal entity. References to "we," "us," or "our" in this policy refer to The Chronosphere project and its operators. The Chronosphere operates the website at thechronos.org (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you visit our Site or contact us. By using the Site you agree to the practices described here.
Information you provide directly. When you submit our contact form we collect your name, email address, and the content of your message. We do not collect payment information. Donations are processed directly through Fractured Atlas; please refer to their privacy policy for how donation-related data is handled.
Information collected automatically. We use Google Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregated data about how visitors use the Site — including pages visited, time on site, general geographic region, and browser type. This data is used solely to understand patronage levels and report project impact. Google Analytics is configured to anonymise IP addresses; no information that identifies you personally is collected or retained. You may opt out of Google Analytics tracking at any time using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Our web server also maintains standard access logs (IP address, request timestamps) for security and operational purposes for up to 90 days.
We do not use your information for advertising, paid targeting, profiling, or automated decision-making.
Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics cookies to collect the anonymous usage data described in Section 1. These cookies do not identify you personally. For details on how Google processes this data see the Google Privacy Policy.
Admin session cookie. The Site uses a single functional cookie to keep administrators logged in to the admin panel. This cookie contains only a session token and no personal data. It is not set for regular visitors.
Third-party exhibit content. Virtual exhibits hosted on the Site may include embedded content from third-party platforms such as YouTube, Vimeo, or others. When you enter an exhibit, those platforms may set their own cookies in accordance with their respective privacy policies. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party cookies set within exhibit content.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. Anonymous, aggregated analytics data is shared with Fractured Atlas for impact reporting purposes only. We may share information with service providers who assist us in operating the Site (such as our hosting provider) solely to the extent necessary to provide those services, and only under confidentiality obligations. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our legal rights.
European residents (GDPR). The Chronosphere is operated from the United States and does not actively target or market to residents of the European Economic Area, UK, or Switzerland. EU visitor traffic is incidental. We nonetheless respect the rights of EU residents: you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of any personal data you have provided to us; to object to or restrict processing; and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Our lawful basis for processing contact form data is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). We have a designated data protection representative who can be reached at info@thechronos.org.
California residents (CCPA / CPRA). California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion, and opt out of any sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To exercise your rights, contact us at info@thechronos.org.
All users. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data you have provided to us by contacting us at info@thechronos.org. We will respond within 30 days.
Contact form submissions are retained only as long as necessary to respond to your enquiry and are then deleted. Anonymous Google Analytics data is retained in accordance with Google's data retention settings (default 26 months). Server access logs are retained for up to 90 days.
The Site is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the Site collects minimal personal data by design, the risk to younger visitors is low; however, if you believe a child has submitted personal information to us we will delete it promptly upon notification.
We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure. The Site is served over HTTPS. However, no internet transmission is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects when changes were last made. Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
